The agriculture sector of India is 28 years lagging behind due to its lack of necessary reforms said Niti Aayog in its meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Aayog said to the government to shift more focus on the agriculture sector and take all the necessary steps to improve the agriculture sector and consider a ‘comprehensive reform package with high involvement from the market’.
While PM Modi was of the view that the focus should not only be on the productivity, but significant steps should be taken for the overall growth of the rural sector.
“The Prime Minister said the focus cannot be on increasing agricultural productivity alone, but should be on the overall development of a vibrant rural economy. He emphasized the importance of the food processing sector, warehouse development, and technology inputs, in this sector,” said an official.
